L’hépatite virale C est une des pathologies virales les plus fréquentes chez les patients ayant une maladie rénale chronique (MRC) [1,2]. De plus, il a été rapporté dans l’étude DOPPS (Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study) que l’hépatite C était un facteur de risque de mortalité chez les patients dialysés [3] avec un risque relatif estimé à 1.34 compris entre 1.13 et 1.59 (intervalle de confiance à 95%) (4). Ainsi, il est recommandé par les KDIGO (Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes), de dépister l’hépatite C chez les patients MRC [5].

Par ailleurs, les patients insuffisants rénaux sont un groupe de patients particulièrement à risque d’infection par le virus de  l’hépatite B [6]. En effet, ces patients sont exposés à des produits sanguins et à une possible contamination par la dialyse [7]. De plus, la MRC est fréquente chez les patients présentant une hépatite B :  l’étude française HARPE a rapporté que 64.6% des patients HBsAg+ présentaient une MRC avant l’initiation d’un traitement oral contre le virus de l’hépatite B [8].

Par ailleurs, la prévalence d’une MRC avant une greffe hépatique est de 10,8% et atteint 57,7% cinq ans après la greffe hépatique [9].
